The sea is calling
The sea covers around 70% area of the earth. The biodiversity in the sea is way much greater than it is on the land. That is why we must protect the sea!
There is a huge variety of sea-originated products that we are using today from both food and non-food industries. I personally think it's fine to utilize what's under the sea, as long as the process is responsible and sustainable. Therefore the outcomes are not just beneficial to humankind but also for our environment.
The most important reason to conserve the sea is not just because we need to appreciate the number of lives inside it but also because the sea is accountable to take part of absorbing the CO2 emissions in the world, or in other words, it helps reducing climate change. Plenty of organisms in the sea uses the CO2. The nature of the sea is amazing.
I know so many millennials nowadays care a lot about climate change, and I hope you're one of these activists too. Let's start saving the sea and the world by doing some simple acts like:
1. Choose your seafood carefully. Pick the fish species which are still abundant and mostly produced sustainably. Good choices are like tuna, salmon, and cod. More specifically please visit the Marine Conservation Society's fish guide: https://www.mcsuk.org/goodfishguide/
It is also recommended to diversify your seafood, don't just eat one species of fish to maintain the fish stocks.
2. The most mainstream but crucial tip is to use less plastic. I understand how difficult it is to exclude plastic from our life because almost all handy containers are made of plastic, your food, beverage, drug, sanitary and cosmetic products are usually stored in plastic. However, every attempt to reduce plastic is always valuable, doesn't matter how small it is. There are 7 billion people in the world, imagine just half of us stop using (or recycle) ONE plastic bag per person it means we have eliminated 3.5 billion of plastic bags, isn't it making a big impact? So keep doing the little things, reuse, reduce, recycle. Influence your friends to do the same as well.
3. Go volunteering. Volunteer yourself to clean the beach, sign a petition, get involved in your local conservation community. It will always be fun, full of adventure and will enhance your experience.
Don't forget to always be responsible even when you're on a vacation on a beach. Don't throw trash to the sea. When you go snorkeling or diving, don't step on a coral or any benthic organisms.
Please spread the words :)
